Unregistered Tax Agent Cops it Big Time

The government sure takes tax returns seriously.  A guy was previously a registered tax agent and now just gets people to do them on MyGov.  Doesn’t seem to be any evidence people got ripped off or hurt in any way and he cops 7 months in jail.

Now don’t get us wrong, this is great news for genuine registered tax agents but our director – Peter Johnson often wonders what the courts are focused on when we see robbers and assaulters getting away with much smaller penalties.

And we would also suggest that if you are an employee of a firm and don’t yet have your registration you make sure you don’t go around helping your friends.  It would appear you are a better citizen if you drink, drive, get in bar fights, harass your neighbours, punch the odd person in the head etc.
