Pensions & Pension Strategies

Pensions inside super have become a lot more complicated since 2017. It used to be very simple. All your money was in a pension but now can't all be in a pension. There are transfer balance accounts, T-bar reporting, etc.

We will cover all the rules around pensions, when you have to report, what the impacts are on your transfer balance account, etc. Eg, what is the impact on a child's transfer balance account when a parent leaves them a death benefit pension?

Then we'll look in detail at strategies around maximizing your after tax benefit from pensions, especially when people have more than $1.6 million in super.

Join our live workshop to get a thorough understanding of all the details around pensions. Specifically, we will be covering:

- All the different types of pensions

- When a pensions starts and ceases

- What to do if you fail to meet the minimum pension payment

- Taxation of pension accounts after death

- Transfer Balance Accounts and TBar reporting

- Children's pensions – taxation, Transfer balance issues, reporting

- Pension Strategies

- Use of Segregation

- Tax Effective use of Pensions

- Consolidations

- Segregated or Unsegregated Assets

Superannuation Death Benefits

The SIS Act has been around for more than 25 years now and SMSFs are just growing and growing.

Now we are seeing a lot of older Australians with SMSFs and lots of media around death benefit disasters.

Usually they centre around benefits going to the wrong person but there is way more than that. For example, a benefit of one million dollars can see a tax bill of $170,000.

The Law

When do you have to pay a death benefit? Who can it be paid to and in what forms can it be paid?

We will look in detail at death benefit nominations and who ultimately controls the payment of death benefits. We won’t restrict our talk to court cases but also to matter that have been referred that didn’t make it to court.

Insurance Issues & Taxation Of Death Benefits

We look at taxation consequences relating to death benefits especially after ceasing a pension. How they are taxed and strategies to reduce tax on death benefits. How the Transfer Balance Cap transactions occur.

We will look at insurance inside and outside of superannuation and the best ways to structure your insurances.

Strategies & Case Studies

Discover strategies to better serve your accounting clients. Lots of these strategies require advice well before retirement so it isn’t just about thinking all my clients are young so it doesn’t matter. We will also go through relevant case studies to strengthen your understanding.

At Advisers Digest we are fielding more and more questions regarding death benefits and it is now quite clear that accountants need more education around the laws and strategies pertaining to superannuation death benefits.

This event will guide you through all the ins-and-outs on the law and taxation of death benefits, as well as strategies and case studies that you can apply for your clients to save the amount of death benefit taxes paid.

Location + COVID 19 Plan
