Purpose of this FSG

This guide contains important information about:

  • the services we offer you
  • how we are paid
  • any potential conflict of interest we may have and;
  • our internal and external dispute resolution procedures and how you can access them.

Other documents you may receive

When we provide you with personal advice, it will normally be documented in the form of a statement of advice. In this document we will tell you about:

  • Our advice
  • The fees, costs and any other benefits payable as a result of our advice and;
  • any associations we have with Financial Product Issuers or other parties which may have influenced the advice we give you.

Who is responsible for the financial services provided?

The SMSF Expert Pty Ltd is responsible for the financial services provided, including the distribution of this Financial Services Guide (FSG).

Do you have any relationships or associations with Financial Product issuer?

The SMSF Expert Pty Ltd is privately owned and is not controlled by any financial institution/s such as a fund manager, bank or insurance company.

What services do you provide and what kinds of financial services are you authorised to provide me and what kinds of Financial Product/s do those services relate to?

As we hold a Limited Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL) we are not able to provide you with specific product advice nor advise on complex financial products. Where we feel you need such advice we will advise you to seek the services of a full Australian Financial Services Licensee.

The SMSF Expert Pty Ltd provides advice which is limited to:

  1. Financial product advice for the following classes of financial products:
    1. Superannuation limited to:
      1. Self Managed superannuation fund;
      2. A persons existing holding in a superannuation product but only to the extent required for:
        1. Making a recommendation that the person establish a self managed superannuation fund; and
        2. Providing advice to the person on contributions or pensions under a superannuation product;
  2. Provide class of financial product advice for the following classes of financial products:
    1. Deposit and payments products limited to:
      1. Basic deposit products
      2. General insurance products
      3. Life products limited to:
        1. Life risk insurance products
      4. Simple managed investment schemes
      5. Securities; and
      6. Superannuation; and
  3. Deal in a financial product by:
    1. Arranging for another person to issue, apply for, acquire, vary or dispose of a financial product in respect of the following classes of financial products:
      1. Superannuation limited to:
        1. Self managed superannuation fund; and
      2. Arranging for another person to apply for, acquire, vary or dispose of financial products in respect of the following classes of financial products:
        1. Superannuation limited to:
        1. Self managed superannuation fund

The SMSF Expert Pty Ltd is not authorised to provide specific financial product advice so we will not be able to recommend that you purchase any particular financial product. We are limited to class of product advice only.

What information should I provide to receive personalised advice?

You need to provide us with a list of your personal objectives, details of your current financial situation and any relevant information, so that we can offer you the most appropriate advice possible.

You have the right not to tell us, if you do not wish to. However, if you do not, the advice you receive may not be appropriate to your needs, objectives and financial situation.

You should read the warnings contained in our Statement of Advice carefully before making any decision relating to a Financial product/s.

What information do you maintain in my file and can I examine my file?

We maintain a record of your personal profile including details of your objectives, financial situation and needs. We also maintain records of any recommendations made to you.

We are committed to implementing and promoting a privacy policy, which will ensure the privacy and security of your personal information. A copy of our privacy policy can be provided upon request. If you wish to examine your file, please ask us. We will make arrangements for you to do so.

We may, from time to time, employ the services of third party contractors in the course of preparing your advice documents. To facilitate this preparation process we may pass on any collected personal and sensitive information to these contractors who will use the information solely for the purposes of preparing your advice document. We ensure that businesses we have relationships with abide by the National Privacy Principles and will not pass on or use your information for any other purposes. Once the relevant task has been completed, your information will be returned or erased from their systems. By engaging us to prepare your advice document you are acknowledging this disclosure and providing your consent for us to deal with your information in this manner. How will I pay for the services provided?

The SMSF Expert operates on a fee for service basis. The SMSF Expert Pty Ltd does not and will not accept any commissions or other forms of direct or indirect payment from any product issuer or adviser that we refer you to for product advice.

We will always provide you with a fee quote before commencing any engagement and you will be aware of any fees you will have to pay us before you instruct us to do any work for you.

We calculate our fees based on the estimated amount of time we will spend on your engagement. And as we said, we will give an estimate of our fee before commencing our engagement and where possible will give the exact fee. We will give you a Statement of Advice containing details of our fees.

Will anyone be paid for referring me to you?

No, not only do we not accept commission but we also do not pay them for referrals.

What should I do if I have a complaint?

If you have any complaints about the service provided to you, you should take the following steps.

2. We will acknowledge receipt of your complaint immediately, however, if this is not possible acknowledgment will be made as soon as possible. We will then investigate the complaint and respond to you within 45 days. Some complex matters may require an extension to thoroughly investigate the complaint and bring it to resolution. If this happens we will keep you informed of the progress of the matter.

3. If you are not fully satisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS), an External Disputes Resolution Scheme, of which Professional Investment Services is a member. Compensation and insurance

The SMSF Expert Pty Ltd has Professional Indemnity Insurance in place to cover us for the financial services that we provide. We understand that it is adequate to meet our requirements as a financial services licensee. The policy includes coverage for claims made in relation to the conduct of representatives/employees who no longer work for us (but who did at the time of the relevant conduct).
